Exclusive Bee Feeding

Introduction

It was a test carried out by Bee Science Nutrition’s R&D team in 2019 under extreme conditions of lack of natural bee food supply, similar to desert conditions.

It is the first test of its kind, in which bees are fed exclusively (not just supplementally) on natural food substitutes for such a long period.

In the south of Vrancea county, in ploughed, freshly sown and intensively weeded conditions, without additional/alternative nectar or pollen sources.

Experiment duration: 15.04.2019-15.06.2019. The flowering of the first sunflower plants in the area made the results no longer relevant.

Start: Placement of 5 bee colonies, each consisting of 1.5 kg of bees (approximately 15,000 individuals) with brood, without brood, on 7 Dadant-sized built-up honeycombs each.

Feeding: at your discretion with: Herbal Energy Cake, Ideal Bee Complete Syrup, Super Protein Candy, Supper Protein Pattie, water.

Evidence of a lack of natural food sources:

  • Absence of any traces of pollen or trout in the combs
  • The permanent negative evolution of hive weight, the only increases being the addition of feed by the beekeeper.

Results:

  • Families have developed in lightning-fast genetic traits;
  • At the end of the experiment, the development was about 8 kg of adult bees / colony (80000 individuals) due to the large amount of brood reared and the longevity of the bees;
  • Some colonies have entered the swarming chills and even swarmed (confirmation of impeccable health).

Conclusions:

Bee Science Nutrition’s feed, and in particular the pollen substitute ApiPollen Substitute from which Super Protein Candy and Super Protein Pattie are made, in combination with the energy feed of the same brand, can support the healthy development of bee families in any kind of foraging environment by providing a complete and healthy food formula, according to the nutritional needs of bees.
